Other settings - Deposits
It is the norm when inviting guests to make bookings to charge them a deposit for that booking. It is this system's approach that if a deposit has been paid then the booking has been accepted, you don't manually approve bookings as the acceptance of money in the form of a deposit automates this.
You can configure if you want to charge deposits and how much by editing the settings in the General Configuration -> Tariffs and Currencies tab. We will not discuss all of the settings here, but we will point out those elements that are of interest.
The first one is "Charge deposits?". If you want to use an online payment gateway, this option must be set to Yes. The other options following speak for themselves, however we will point out that the option "Amount charged at booking time", be it set as Deposit or Full Amount is important. In this system, a deposit is any amount that's charged at the time of the booking. The Full Amount setting is a short-cut to effectively charging 100% of the value of the booking, but it's still considered a deposit (because the guest is paying a fee to ensure that they have reserved something).
