Other settings - Guest numbers/Guest types

Your decision as to whether or not to include guest numbers in the booking details depends on several factors.

If you want to charge per person per night, you must create guest types.
If you want to offer different tariffs based on guest numbers, then you must create guest types
If you just want to know how many people to expect, you must create guest types.

If you do want to charge per person per night, you first must configure this option in General Configuration -> Tariffs and Currencies tab.

Creating guest types is easy. In the manager's toolbar click on option 16, this will take you to the guest types management page. To begin with this list will be empty so you will need to create a new guest type by clicking on the icon with the gold star.

There are several inputs, which are mentioned in the page linked at the bottom of this one, but for now all we're going to do is create a guest type called Adult, and make the maximum available on the booking form 4.

Once you've clicked Save you'll see it becomes part of the list of available guest types. This list can be reorder to determine which guest type should show first in the booking form. Additionally, there's an option in the Booking Rooms 2 tab in general configuration called "Guest type default" which will set the default number of guests that's selected when the booking form is first opened. This can be useful if you prefer to encourage bookings with large parties.

As mentioned above, if you want to charge per person per night then you must create at least one guest type and ensure that it is published. You are advised to read the page "How prices are calculated" to understand how the variances can also affect the value of a booking.

If you don't want to charge per person per night, you will still need to create at least one guest type if you want to modify the value of a booking based on the number of people in a booking (by having different tariffs with different min and max people).

Some hotels will charge what's known as a single person suppliment. Typically these are hotels that charge per person per night and want to recoup a loss on a bed if the room is only occupied by one person. See here on how to set this charge.
