First Steps - rooms and tariffs

The next thing you need to do is configure your rooms and tariffs (or rates, if you prefer that word). This is achieved by going to Property Admin (that's number 13 on the toolbar).

By default, if you are set up as an MRP you'll see something like this:

If you are set up as an SRP, you'll see this:

This is the room/tariff administration setup. In this system there are three different ways you can configure your rooms and tariffs, the other two are Advanced Tariff editing mode and Micromanage mode, but Normal mode is the easiest to set up.

You will have noticed that there are two different views for MRPs and SRP. It could be argued that we split the tutorial off at this point and deal with them seperately but there really isn't a lot of point as many options in the system are valid for both MRPs and SRPs so we'll keep to the one "thread" (if you like) and point out the differences as we go.

Let's look at the MRP's view of this page with the data fields filled.

The first field is the room type (4p = 4 poster bed, D/B = double room, S = Single and T/B = twin beds however your system administrator might have worded your room type names differently). In this example we've filled all of the fields, but you might not have, for example any 4 poster beds, in which case you'll want to leave the Number of Rooms setting at 0 (zero). If you have different room types ask your website administrator to create more room types, for example perhaps twin doubles.

The Rate per night setting should speak for itself so now you should look at the Max (maximum) People per room and Max people per booking. The max people per room needs to be set as this is used later by the booking form if you want to use Guest Types later on (many people do) so if a room can house four people, then set it to four. Finally the max people per booking needs to be set. In the option above we've configured the max people to be set to twice the number that each of the rooms can house (don't worry, guests can mix and match room types in the booking form if they want) but if you are happy with large parties of guests then you can set the limit to much higher, so if your hotel has 50 beds in total, you could in theory set this maximum to 50. Rest assured, the booking engine will not let you book out more beds than you actually have free.

Now let's look at an SRP's view of a filled form.

The columns are very similar to an MRPs columns. The first indicates the property type, eg 1 bedroom through 6 bedroom properties. The rate per night (if you charge per week then don't worry, there's a setting for this too) and the maximum people in a booking. The maximum in this case would be similar to an MRP's settings in that it would be for the maximum number of people that the property can accomodate.

Save these details and we'll take you to the next page in this guide.
