Single Room Properties (SRPs)
Using Jomres to rent out a property
Before you set up an apartment/villa/cottage it's essential to understand a little about how this system works, in particular that there's a chain that links tariffs to room types to rooms. (Yes, I know you're not interested in hearing about rooms when you rent out a property, but read on).
In Jomres-speak a property where you are renting out a property as opposed to rooms in a property, is known as a "Single Room Property".
In SRPs, you only want to have one room type & room. Jomres will only find the first room type during a search for tariffs.
What happens is Jomres looks at the start and end dates of the booking enquiry. It will then find tariffs who's start and end dates match that of the enquiry and look through a list of rooms to find which ones match the room type of that tariff. If they are found then it will look at the availability of each room, and once all of these checks are complete, if the room comes back as available it will show the room as part of a list.
If a property is classified as an SRP Jomres will find the first valid tariff, and by association will discover the room type, then it will find the first room that matches the room type. To save processing too many database queries Jomres will not look for any more room types. This probably sounds a bit confusing but its how Jomres can service both hotels, b&bs, guest houses and apartments/villas/cottages etc. It started out as a hack but it's now part of how Jomres works, and it does it very effectively.
Jomres does attempt to make things a little simpler for you. If it knows that you've classified this as an SRP then when you go to property admin, if you have already created a room & room type (or if Jomres has done it for you, as is normally the case) then it will not offer you the new room type/new rooms links that a property manager normally sees. This is all very good and well but confusion may occur if you've created a property, added rooms and added room types and then changed the General Configuration -> Booking Rooms option "Is this an apartment/cottage/villa?" from No to Yes. The easiest solution in this instance is to delete all but one room type, all but one room then make sure that the room is classified as the remaining room type, and all tariffs are linked to the same room type.
