Tax Rates

General description

The 'Tax rates' feature allows you to create multiple tax rates that you can apply to anything that is sold with Jomres (booking prices, subscription prices, extras, etc). This feature was designed to help property owners from different countries to easily adapt Jomres to their country tax legislation. Different countries have different VAT, some have tourist taxes, some have different VAT for services (like bookings) and different VAT for products (extras like 'breakfast').

Usage

Don`t worry now about associating taxes to different products (booking prices, extras, etc). This will be done from the frontend when setting up your property. For now, we will concentrate to define all possible taxes for the country in which you offer accommodation.

Editing a tax rate

By default, Jomres comes with a VAT tax specific to the UK market (17.5%) so first of all, we have to modify the VAT to suit your country. To do this, click on the Edit button associated with this tax rate. You will be taken to a new screen where you can edit the fields as required.

  1. Edit the tax code
  2. Edit the rate description
  3. Edit the tax rate (without the '%'percent sign). If you don`t want to apply tax (or the prices already include tax), then enter 0 (zero).
  4. Save changes to return to the previous screen or hit cancel so the changes won`t be saved.

You cannot delete the first tax rate. You must have at least one tax rate in the system.

Adding a tax rate

Ok, we've edited the default tax rate. Now let`s assume that in our country there is a different tax rate for services (like bookings) and a different tax rate for products (that can be offered as extras). We just edited the services/bookings tax, and now let`s add the product specific tax rate. To do this, click on the 'New' button and will be taken to a new screen where you can edit the fields as required.

  1. Edit the tax code
  2. Edit the rate description (for example "VAT for products")
  3. Edit the tax rate (without the '%' sign). If you don`t want to apply tax (or the prices already include tax), then enter 0 (zero).
  4. Save changes to return to the previous screen.

When arriving back to the tax rates screen, you`ll see listed there the new tax rate that you`ve just created.

Deleting a tax rate

Before you delete a tax rate, first make sure it`s not associated with any property, otherwise errors may occur.
To delete a tax rate, click on the Edit button associated with the tax rate you want to delete. You will be taken to a new screen and here you have to click on the trash can icon.

Final notes

The tax rates you set up here will be shown in the tax selection dropdowns in the frontend property/rates/extras configuration screens.
If you have properties in different countries, then you can define different tax rates and apply them differently for each property depending on country.
