Configuration

Contents

Jomres is extremely configurable. Broadly speaking configuration options fall into two categories

  1. Site Configuration This includes things like property manager configuration, creating room types and property features
  2. Property Configuration Performed by property managers.

As this is the System Administrator's guide, we will focus on the Site Configuration functionality.

Enabling front end access to Jomres

This page assumes that you've completed the installation by running install_jomres.php (where you enter your license key). If you haven't, you must perform that step first.

If you are just getting started with Jomres then you will probably want to add a menu option from your main menu to the Jomres Component.

In the CMS administrator's area use the top toolbar to navigate: Menu -> Main menu. Click the New icon, then choose Component from the Components panel. You will be in the "Add Menu Item :: Component " screen. Enter a description (I recommend Bookings for now) and choose Jomres from the Select list below and click Save.

Now you can go to the front end of your CMS installation and refresh it. You should have the Bookings option in the main menu. Log in as admin to administer your properties.

What a user sees when they view Jomres depends on

1. their status with the system and 2. how you've configured certain Jomres modules.

If a user is a non-authorised user then it is expected that in most instances they will arrive in the component either via a link in one of your menus or via a search module. If you only have one property on the system then it's probably not practical to install any of the search modules and you can limit yourself to having only the link in the menu. If you have more than one property then it is recommended that you install one of the search modules and encourage visitors to use that to locate a property.

Authorised users would be better served by having a link in a menu, for example in Mambo's user menu, that they can click on.

Important: Contrary to the "normal" Joomla and Mambo way of doing things, most of the Jomres functionality is accessed via the front end, therefore you will need to enable the Login module so that you and/or other property manager's can log in and make any changes they need.

Users in Jomres

Jomres has five types of user: Non-registered users, Registered users, Receptionists, Property Managers and Super Property Managers. These are grouped into two classes, authorised and non-authorised users.

All property management functions are performed via the front end of the CMS with the exception of admin (and he/she can be disabled if required) there is no requirement for any manager to have backend access to Mambo/Joomla.

Authorised users have varying degrees of property management activities available to them, whereas non-authorised users can simply view a property and make bookings.

Non-registered Users (non-authorised) These users are visitors to the site who are not registered on the server. Jomres does not demand that a user be registered on the server, but it will not remember their details from visit to visit.

Registered users (non-authorised) Same as non-registered users except that once they've made a booking on a property, their details for that property will be remembered so long as they are logged into the website.

Receptionists (authorised user) In addition to making bookings they can also view and edit guest details and view booking details.

Property Managers (authorised user) Same as Receptionist, plus they have access to all of the various options required for property management functions such as configuring the property, setting up tariffs and all other configuration options.

Super Property Managers (authorised user) Same as a Property Manager but in addition they can access the bug reporting tool and if the Site Config option "Global editing mode?" is set to Yes then any language editing functions they perform will impact language settings for all properties, not just the one they may be editing. If the Minimise configuration options option is set to yes, then super property managers will still see the entire set of options available.

All users can perform bookings (if the property allows), however if a gateway is configured for a given property the system will not offer the payment option to the authorised user (in other words they won't be able to make a payment on behalf of the guest), whereas non-authorised users (Non-registered & Registered users) will be offered the payment option.

The differences between Super and non-Super managers: Super property managers can take advantage of the global text editing mode, and only super property managers can see the bug reporting tool in the manager's menu (new for 2.6.1). As of 2.6.2 Super Property Managers can create new properties regardless of the site configuration setting Users can register their properties? As of 3.1.14 Super Property Managers have access to all properties by default so you don't need to assign them a property for them to manage that property. Normal property managers need to be assigned to a property before they can administer it.
